Jovanovski to clash with Torro-Flor, Govortsova to take on Minella in last four at Tashkent Open

September 12 : Top seeded and qualifier Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia will clash with giant killer unseeded Spaniard Maria -Teresa Torro Flor , while unseeded Mandy Minella of Luxembourg will take on her doubles partner and unseeded Belarusian Olga Govortsova in the semifinals of the 15th edition of the Tashkent Open being played at the Olympic Tennis Complex .

In the quarterfinals played today the No.1 ranked Jovanovski who qualified for the event scored a 1-6,6-4,7-6(5) win over seventh seeded Galina Voskoboeva in 2 hours 18 minutes, unseeded 86th ranked Spaniard Maria- Teresa Torro Flor recorded her second successive upset accounting for third seeded Yvonne Meusburger of Austria 6-3,6-0 in just 51 minutes.

113th ranked Olga Govortsova of Belarus also scalped the second seeded player in a row registering a 6-3,6-2 win over Alexandra Cadantu in 1 hour and 22 minutes , while 132 ranked Mandy Minella of Luxembourg came back from being 2-5 down in the first set , to end the challenge of Italian teen Nastassja Burnett 7-6(4),7-5 in 1 hour 40 minutes.

In the best match of the day which went full length Serbian Bojana Jovanovski broke her quarterfinal jinx at the Tashkent Open scraping past the fighting Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva 1-6,6-4,7-6(5) in a thriller.

Voskoboeva currently ranked 80 and a regular here ripped through the first set giving just 16 points to the top seeded Serbian Bojana and breaking her in the 1st 5th and the 7th games. In the second set the off color Bojana broke Galina in the 1st game but lost her serve in the 4th game to see scores at 2-2.

Bojana seemed to discover her rhythm midway hitting scorching forehand down the line winners and deftly executed back hand cross courts to move the tall Kazakh Galina around and break her in the 7th game and then held on to her serve to take the set 6-4 and force the decider.

In the decider Galina broke Bojana in the second game and went up 2-0 , but some torrid shots and intelligent tennis from Bojana saw her break back and level scores at 2-2. In the 7th game Bojana broke and held on to her eighth service game to race to a 5-3 lead , but the hardworking Kazakh changed strategy using serve volleys and moving up to the net to unnerve the top seed and level scores at 5-5.

Both players held on to their serves and forced the tiebreak , in which the top seeded Bojana used some loose shots by Galina to her advantage and wrapped the tiebreak 7-5 and make it to the last four here for the first time here .

I didn’t start well in the first set , it was windy , in the middle of the second set I got my rhythm and started being more aggressive , Galina played wonderful tennis mixing up her game using serve volleys and drop shots effectively , at the end I managed to win and very happy about it, said Bojana after her match.
Maria -Teresa Torro-Flor continued her fabulous run at the event reaching her first ever Tour semifinals outhitting third seeded and 69th ranked Yvonne Meusburger of Austria 6-3,6-0 in less than an hour. Torro-Flor broke Meusburger in the very second game and then held on to race to a 3-0 lead. Serving a high 77% first serves she held on easily to her service to take the set 6-3 in 28 minutes.
In the second set Torro- Flor Kept up her offence losing just 9 points in the set , and breaking the hapless Austrian Meusburger thrice and score a 6-0 win and passage into the semifinals.

Speaking after her match Torro- Flor said I was expecting a tough match and prepared well , I’m Happy to be in my first ever semifinal on the tour I played confidently , focused on my match , I started well and played a good match , I’m playing better on hard court and doing my work play aggressive tennis , I’m not thinking of points but I’m thinking of improving my game

I let her take a start , and just could not back into the game , my opponent played well but I could have done better , said Meusburger after the loss

113th ranked Olga Govortsova of Belarus uspet second seeded player in a row registering a one sided 6-3,6-2 win over Alexandra Cadantu of Romania in 1 hour and 22 minutes. Cadantu ranked 71 currently served 8 double faults in the match. in the first set Govortsova got the decisive break in the 6th game and went on to hold on and win 6-3.

Govortsova frustrated Cadantu with some sharp deep baseline strokes to break her in the 3rd and the 7th games and register a thumping 6-2 win and a spot in the last four. This the second time I played Cadantu I won against her at Dubai , I know she puts back a lot of balls ,I tried to finish the points early and think I did well , Govortsova said

In a fast paced match 132 ranked Mandy Minella of Luxembourg came back from being 2-5 down in the first set to end the challenge of Italian teen Nastassja Burnett 7-6(4),7-5 in 1 hour 40 minutes .

Burnett currently ranked 172 who had a splendid run here so far , went for her strokes freely and troubled the 132nd ranked Minella breaking her twice in the 2nd and the 4th games to go up 4-0 . Minella relied on her experience to keep the ball back and sty in the match. She got her lucky chance in the 9th game when Burnett missed a easy forehand finish .

Minella got back into the match breaking the young Italian and leveling scores. in the tiebreak Minella played solidly to win it and also take the first set at 7-6(4). In the second set which saw some exceptional tennis from both players saw scores level at 5-5 , Minella held on to the 11th game . A double fault at match point in 12th game ended the young Italian’s challenge and gave Minella a 7-5 win and a passage into the second semifinal of the tour event after Marrakesh.

The match was fast paced and attacking and also lot of incredible shots were hit by both of us , I was never leading in the match , but played very well after being down 0-4 , also a easy miss by Burnett on her forehand at 5-2 changed the momentum a bit , I guess my experience helped me a bit in the match. This win will surely help my confidence said Minella.

Minella will contest the semifinals against her doubles partner Govortsova , The pair of Govortsova and Minella ranked second here also made it to the finals in the doubles accounting for the Kichenok sisters Lyudmyla and Nadiya 6-1,6-3
