Tashkent, September 27: Second seed and world ranked 46th Shahar Peer of Israel lifted her second WTA tour title in as many weeks as she outplayed Local Star Akgul Amanmuradova to lift the 11th edition of the Tashkent Open Sony Ericcson WTA tour event being played at the Olympic School Tennis courts here.

Amanmuradova 6-3, 6-4 in a 1 hr 32 minute tussle watched by large crowds. Peer collected a winner’s purse of $37,000 and 280 WTA points, while runners-up had to be content with $19,000 and 200 WTA points

“ I played solid tennis today , and happy that I’m playing well, I’ve played 10 matches in row without dropping a set , and that’s a nice feeling” said Peer after the match.

I’ve played Akgul four times before , and know her game fairly well, but I knew today would be difficult , but I played solid and did not give her any chance , she added.

“It’s been two good weeks, it was difficult to adjust to the weather here coming from Guangzhou, but I survived “. I ‘m happy that my father was with me the both weeks I won the event , Shahar said.

In the first set lasting 41 minutes Shahar broke Akgul in the 5th and 9th games to win the set 6-3 rather easily .

In the second set Akgul broke Shahar in the very first game , but lost her serve immediately Shahar again broke Akgul in the 4th game to lead 3-1, but Akgul broke back immediately in the 5th game to reduce the deficit to 3-2,

Peer again broke the poor serving Akgul in the 6th game , held on to her serve in the 7th game to go up 5-2. Akgul held on to her 8th game , her only hold in the match and reduced the deficit , the tall and lanky Uzbek then broke Peer after 5 deuces and saving 2 match points to raise some visions of comeback.

But Peer showed the tremendous form to break Akgul in the 10th game and wrap up the match and with that the hopes of the large crowds.

“The key to my wins, the forehands and serves, just didn’t work today”, admitted Akgul after the match. I’m disappointed to have lost after coming so far , but I’m happy to have lost to a good player , she added.

I give credit to Shahar for playing great tennis and the way she handled the pressure of the large crowd”. I was very tired after the 4 back to back matches and also felt 20kgs heavy carrying the expectations of my fans” Akgul added
