Interview of the Day - Ksenia Pervak

16 September 2011

Top seed Ksenia Pervak reached the finals of Tashkent Open without dropping a set , she will surpass her career high ranking of No 51 regardless of the final result. Playing her first tournament as a top seed , she has had a good run in the last couple of months , reaching the Semi-finals at Bad Gastein and the Finals at Baku.

Aiming to win her first ever title on the tour and inspired by her idol Anastasia Myskina ’s visit to the Tashkent Open yesterday , Pervak wants to give it her best shot in the finals tomorrow . She spoke to Sunder Iyer of the Tashkent Open Media team about the match today.

Q. A good comeback for you in second set and again a two set win on way to finals
Yes, it was a very tough match for me , coming back from being down 1-4 , I’m happy to have made it . I was actually very tired from yesterday’s long doubles match but it was important that I won today.

Q. Give us your thoughts on tomorrow’s finals
I’m happy to be in finals . The finals is anyone’s game in sports anything can happen. In women’s tennis players are so close in terms of the game , that on one day anyone can beat anyone . I would not like to predict but today for sure but I’m going to do my best.

Q. The last couple of months have been good for you and your form continues ?
I’m happy the way the year has been , there has been lot of changes with my tennis in the last six months , I changed my coach now I’m working with Vladimir Platenik in Slovakia since the French Open . I’m staying there alone and working very hard . With my new coach we had a goal to reach top 50 and we are working towards it.

Q. Your Future plans for the year ?
I’ll be playing at Guangzhou , Lynx and then the Kremlin cup , also I’ll be training for two or three weeks in between till I go for my vacations.

Q. With your recent performances your rankings have shot up , have you a goal you have in mind before the year end.
Like I told you earlier my aim was to be in top 50 , but it’s already come , I would like to take it match by match , play relaxed and keep improving and going up.

Q So many Russians swarming on the top 100 is it the system or the characteristics of the player?
I think it is the Russian Character, most of the Russian players who are doing well are playing abroad, We have to fight from the junior levels itself the competition is so intense right from Under 14 and Under 16 events , that we have to learn to fight and work very hard. It’s in our blood to work hard and overcome tough conditions

Q Your thoughts on Tashkent open 2011 ?
I’m happy to be here , I have no problems , I like the courts , the organisation has been fantastic and the people are very helpful . I like the city and will surely go around. If I have a chance I will come back here.
